Jean Paul joined our firm in October 2019 and is a member of the Family Law practice group. Prior to joining Meagher + Geer, Jean Paul worked as an associate at a general practice law firm focusing mainly on family law cases, while also representing clients in civil litigation matters. Jean Paul draws upon his experience from serving as a law clerk at the Hennepin County Family Justice Center, which included involvement in the Family Court Enhancement Project – a program addressing domestic abuse cases with child-related relief.
His family law experience includes litigating divorce actions involving disputes related to custody, parenting time, child support, spousal maintenance, property division, and non-marital claims. Jean Paul has also handled post-dissolution motions addressing issues related to reopening divorce decrees, relocating a child to another state, and modifying custody, parenting time, child support, and spousal maintenance. In addition, Jean Paul has represented clients in matters related to paternity, domestic abuse, harassment restraining orders, termination of parental rights, grandparent visitation, stepparent adoptions, and international custody disputes. Jean Paul also has experience drafting and negotiating dissolution decrees in uncontested divorce proceedings when the parties have reached comprehensive settlement agreement and they wish to proceed by default.
Jean Paul has tried – as first and second chair – court trials in family law cases involving divorce and domestic abuse. He also has experience assisting parties through alternative dispute resolution and investigative processes commonly utilized in family law cases, including mediations, social early neutral evaluations, financial early neutral evaluations, custody and parenting time evaluations, brief focused assessments, and guardian ad litem appointments.
Jean Paul approaches his practice with passion, advocacy, and empathy for his clients who are often transitioning through a difficult period in their lives.
Prior to attending graduate school at the University of West Florida, Jean Paul worked as a hibachi chef for approximately four years. Outside of the office, Jean Paul enjoys spending time with his family, board games, trying new restaurants, and grilling.
