Main Biography

Christian is one of the firm’s senior attorneys.  He offers clients twenty five years of experience representing insurance carriers nationwide, focusing on complex insurance coverage issues and insurance bad faith.  His clients praise his ability to make complicated insurance coverage issues understandable.  He has extensive experience in directors and officers liability coverage, professional liability coverage, general liability coverage, employment practices coverage, errors and omissions coverage, fidelity coverage, first party property coverage, fiduciary liability coverage, and a broad assortment of other property and casualty and special lines coverage.  He assists clients with all aspects of claims handling and litigation, and with insurance policy drafting.  The extent of his insurance coverage knowledge and experience is difficult to match.

Christian also advises and represents businesses and executives with regard to labor and employment matters, and he has extensive experience with First Amendment rights and employment issues applicable to churches and other religious organizations.   Within the firm, he has successfully mentored many of our younger associates.

For more than a decade, Christian sat on the board of directors of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, where he chaired the Legal Committee and Personnel Committee, and had responsibility over legal, property and business matters.  His recent article, Protector, Leader and Benefactor:  The Modern Lutheran Lay Leader in the Shoes of the Lutheran Prince, provides an extensive explanation of First Amendment issues relating to religious organizations and has been published in booklet form by Concordia Historical Institute and the Luther Academy.

On a pro bono basis, Christian has worked with many pastors and other church leaders who need legal help.  He also sits on the board of a non-profit organization that funds religious materials written in native languages around the world.

In addition, Christian is Chair of the Charter Commission of the City of Plymouth, is a former member of the Plymouth City Council, the Plymouth Planning Commission, and the Board of Regents of Concordia University - St. Paul.

Outside the office, Christian enjoys the outdoors.  He is currently using his carpentry skills to rebuild the family cabin, which was recently destroyed in a forest fire.
